GBCHealth Conference Introduces MDG Health Alliance

The initiatives announced today include the following:


Child Health Pillar Vice-Chair Leith Greenslade, a private investor, announced a new partnership involving leading companies that have agreed to work with the public sector to end child diarrhea deaths in India by scaling up the supply and distribution of zinc and ORS. Ms. Greenslade also acknowledged the leadership of Canadian resource company Teck, which announced today a multi-million program to scale up the use of zinc and ORS to 2 million children in Senegal, and called on other mining companies to join the partnership. Partnerships will also be formed in other countries with high burdens of child diarrhea deaths with a global call of saving 1 million children by 2015.
Community Health Worker Pillar Chairman Jeff Walker, the former Chairman of CCMP Capital Advisors LLC, announced the publication of a breakthrough report on technology-enabled improvements to community health worker training programs, in partnership with the Barr Foundation, iHeed, the mHealth Alliance, and Dalberg Global Development Advisors. A key finding of this report is that multimedia applications with digital content and increased collaboration could potentially enable the training of one million new CHWs at less than a quarter of the cost of disseminating conventional training.

MTCT Pillar Chairman John Megrue, CEO of Apax Partners US, explained that earlier this year at the World Economic Forum, the Business Leadership Council for a Generation Born HIV Free (the BLC) consisting of CEOs and Chairs of leading global companies, including several GBCHealth member organizations, was launched to support the elimination of mother-to-child-transmission. The BLC is already working closely with UN agencies like UNICEF and UNAIDS, and partners like PEPFAR, while leveraging the skills and expertise of its corporate members, often working in the countries carrying the burden of the HIV epidemic. The theme of the 2012 AFOW Conference is SHE: Self-determination. Help. Empowerment. The conference is designed for professionals who work with women and families in the fields of substance abuse, mental health, criminal justice, human services, healthcare and related professions.

As the title of Four Circles seminar indicates, Out of the Chair attendees wont be passive recipients of information about concrete methods for working with families and groups who are struggling with addiction-related issues. Through these activities, families learn new ways of interacting with each other, said Dr. Weis. With these workshops, its all about asking families to get out of their comfort zone. We engage in activities that encourage them to be uncomfortable in order to address the problems that theyve been dealing with.

According to Four Circles Executive Director Jack Kline, MS, LPC, LCAS, CCS, Schnoebelen and Dr. Weis are particularly well-suited to teach other professionals about wilderness-based treatment for women.

We have the nations premier young adult drug and alcohol treatment program, and we have the only program in the nation that provides wilderness therapy to young women who are struggling with substance abuse, said Kline. Heather and Melanies leadership ensures that Four Circles is a clinically sophisticated and emotionally safe environment where women can deal with the issues that are specific to their unique situations.

Schnoebelen holds a masters degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Wilderness Therapy from Naropa University, and has been working with adolescents and families in the wilderness for more than 10 years. Her focus has been on addictions, depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, gender identity issues, oppositional behavior, and conduct disorder with adolescents and young adults.

Dr. Weis, who joined the Four Circles team two years ago, has a wealth of professional experience working with children, adolescents and adults on issues of grief and loss, domestic violence, addictions, anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, and depression. Prior to becoming a part of the Four Circles family, she was in private practice counseling adults and couples.

Valley Fair is one of Westfields top-performing malls in its US portfolio and is the dominant regional enclosed mall in San Jose. Possession of the 1,200 square foot retail space, currently occupied by Janie & Jack, is scheduled for July 1, with store opening slated for late summer/early fall 2012. The space boasts over 22 feet of frontage and is among retailers including Apple, True Religion, Stuart Weitzman, Kiehls & MAC Cosmetics. The 1.4 million square foot, open-air shopping center is anchored by Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, Macys, and Nordstrom.
